About Fosters Closet
Our organization helps reduce the financial strain a new placement can have on a foster family by freeing up funds that would otherwise be used to fulfill these immediate needs. These needs are not always met immediately or in full by the State and that is where we step-in. Meeting these needs allows foster parents the ability to use the funds saved to help the children adapt to their new homelife in other ways. Fosters Closet is not a “One Stop” shop; you may use it as many times as need arises.
What We Do
Our organization provides clothing, underclothing, toys, shoes, baby gear, and in some cases furniture to children placed in the foster care system in Eastern New Mexico. These items have been donated to our organization and come to us either new or like new. Children are often placed in foster care with no personal items and in many cases they come into care with only the clothes on their back. Our organization provides these kids with stylish new or like new clothes and personal items helping to begin the process of rebuilding their self-esteem and providing them with belongings they can call their own.
Items Needed

New or very gently used clothing (ages Preemie – Teenage)
New or very gently used shoes
New or very gently used coats
Snow Pants/Snow suits
Non-Drop down cribs
Toddler beds/Crib Mattress’
Strollers
Unexpired Car seats/Booster Seats
High Chairs/Booster Seats
All Baby Items
Halloween Costumes
New packs of socks (all sizes)
New packs of underwear (all sizes)
Bikes
Hygiene Products (unopened toothbrushes, tooth paste, & deodorant)
Baby shampoo, body wash, and baby lotion
Bubble bath
Diapers (all sizes)
Baby wipes
Luggage and/or duffel bags
New or very gently used children's books
New Pajamas (all sizes)
Homemade Items: blankets, quilts, and pillow cases
Any other items a child may need or want
Baby Car Seats
We know the state will provide car seats on loan or Foster families can purchase car seats and receive reimbursement for them but the car seat then travels with the child. Because car seats do expire, we can only take donations of new car seats that are in date.
Costumes
All kids love to dress up; so we do accept clean, gently used and new costumes.
Stuffed Animal
We try to provide a stuffed animal to each and every child that needs one. With all the inconsistencies in their lives, they can always use something to hold on to.
Emergency Placement Packages​
Emergency Placements happen when children need to be placed in a foster home quickly, leaving little to no notice for the foster parents. These packages are specifically designed based on the child's age and contain such basic necessities as formula, diapers, bottles, wipes, school supplies, pajamas, blankets, and more.
Lending Library​​
Parents can request items from the Lending Library and keep them for as long as they are needed, at which point the items are returned to the Lending Library for other foster parents to use. The Lending Library will contain larger items such as beds, strollers, high chairs, etc.
